Sports Illustrated is one of the last outlets to release its preseason Top 25 teams.

Along with the top 25, the outlet also released its picks for the College Football Playoff: Alabama, FSU, Ohio State and Oklahoma State. You’ll see those picks reflected in the rankings below.

Here’s the statement from SI:

What follows is SI’s preseason Top 25, led by our picks to join the Crimson Tide and the Seminoles in the College Football Playoff field: Ohio State and Oklahoma State.

So, really, SI.com’s preseason rankings is actually predicting how teams will finish the season as opposed to where they currently are entering it. That’s somewhat different than the way other outlets release preseason rankings.

Six SEC teams made the cut, and only Alabama and Auburn cracked the top 10. Joining the Tide and Tigers are LSU, Georgia, Florida and, surprise, Texas A&M. Yes, while many are skeptical of Kevin Sumlin’s 2017 campaign, SI.com believes the Aggies are a top 25 team. We’re not here to doubt the Aggies; it’s just a different prediction than most. A top 25 finish would bode well for Sumlin to return in 2018.
