Rivalry week made it clear that Alabama is the SEC’s only chance of winning a national championship this season.

Scanning the good guys: Alabama slipped past Auburn 29-13 to wrap up the regular season. The Crimson Tide can clinch a College Football Playoff berth and perhaps the No. 1 seed with a victory over Florida in the SEC Championship Game. The Tide is playing better than any other team in the country.

Here is the list of teams that have a chance to threaten Alabama’s national championship dreams:

THREAT LEVEL: FROSTBITE WARNING

Below zero-degrees. Could lose a finger if you’re stuck outside too long.

Florida: If Alabama defeats Florida in the SEC title game, it’s in. The Gators are the only team standing in the way of Alabama’s path to the Playoff, but Florida would have to play dramatically better on offense to have any chance of beating the Tide. Against Florida State, Florida’s offense managed only 262 yards and failed to get in the end zone. The Gators kicking game was also a disaster. Alabama should win the SEC title and make the playoff.

Oklahoma: Oklahoma is the only team with a secured spot in the Playoff after its 58-23 demolition of Oklahoma State. The Sooners have an excellent rushing attack led by Samaje Perine and Joe Mixon. They rushed for 344 yards against Oklahoma State and topped 330 yards on the ground in their past two games. They’ve also rushed for at least 232 yards in each game during their current seven-game winning streak.

Clemson: If the Tigers defeat North Carolina in the ACC title game, they’re in. If Clemson makes the playoff, they’ll be led by Deshaun Watson, arguably the best quarterback in the nation. Watson is good enough to carry Clemson to a national championship. In a sloppy contest against South Carolina on Saturday, he helped Clemson convert 9 of 13 third-down tries and accounted for four touchdowns. Clemson’s only major flaws are turnovers and inconsistent defense.

Michigan State: If the Spartans defeat Iowa in the Big Ten title game, they’re in. Michigan State’s defense is starting to dominate opponents again. The Spartans held Ohio State to only 132 total yards in their 17-14 road upset last Saturday. And Saturday, they forced Penn State into four turnovers and scored two defensive TDs. Michigan State QB Connor Cook is one of the nation’s most efficient passers.

Iowa: If the Hawkeyes defeat Michigan State, they’re in. Iowa is a solid team. The Hawkeyes offense doesn’t make mistakes, and their defense forces turnovers.

THREAT LEVEL: FREEZING RAIN

It’s not a blizzard, but its still likely to force public schools in the South to close.

Ohio State: If North Carolina beats Clemson, Iowa beats Michigan State or Alabama loses to Florida, the Buckeyes could be a controversial pick as a non-division winner.

North Carolina: The Tar Heels need to defeat Clemson and maneuver past Ohio State in the committee vote.

Stanford: With two losses, the Cardinal needs to beat Southern Cal in the Pac-12 title game and get help from Florida and North Carolina for an outside chance.
