Big news for Tim Tebow.

The Mets announced that Tebow is being promoted to Class A-Advanced St. Lucie Mets, and he’s leaving the Columbia Fireflies after Sunday night’s game.

“Tim brought an incredible amount of experience and leadership to our clubhouse,” Fireflies president John Katz said. “His contributions, both on the field and in our community, have made a tremendous impact on our team, the City of Columbia and the entire South Atlantic League. We wish Tim the best as he continues his journey to Citi Field.”

Tebow has played in 63 games for the Fireflies, and he’s hitting .222, with three home runs and 23 RBIs. That isn’t the greatest stat line certainly, but Tebow has proven he’s dedicated to honing his skills on the diamond and the Mets have taken notice.

It’s unlikely he makes it to the big leagues, but there’s no doubt he makes big financial impacts everywhere he goes.  In fact, he’s proven to be a financial boom for minor league baseball, and he’ll have that same effect with St. Lucie. At some point the Mets and Tebow will have to come to grips with what his future realistically holds in baseball.

Tebow will play in his first game with St. Lucie on June 27.
