Top 10 recruits by SEC states
Based on 247Sports’ 2015 composite rankings by state, here are Mississippi’s 10 best prospects and where they’re headed:
- Jamal Peters, S, 6-3, 200, Bassfield (Four-star, Mississippi St. commit) — Likely a first-game starter for the Bulldogs next season, Peters has all the intangibles you look for in a safety — ball skills, leaping ability, aggression — and stands out against some of the best players at his position nationally as the top recruit in Mississippi. He chose Mississippi St. over offers from Alabama and Auburn among several others.
- Javon Patterson, OL, 6-2, 290, Petal (Four-star, Ole Miss commit)
- Leo Lewis, LB, 6-3, 225, Brookhaven (Four-star, Ole Miss commit)
- Malik Dear, ATH, 5-9, 210, Jackson (Four-star, Mississippi St. commit) — This future multi-position option for Dan Mullen in Starkville has the talent to play wide receiver, running back or defensive back at the next level with top-end speed and explosiveness.
- Fletcher Adams, DT, 6-3, 260, Brandon (Four-star, Mississippi St. commit)
- Tommy Champion, OL, 6-5, 285, Jackson (Four-star, Mississippi St. commit)
- Willie Hibbler, ATH, 6-5, 233, Sardis (Four-star, Ole Miss commit)
- Timothy Washington, LB, 6-3, 200, Yazoo City (Four-star, Mississippi St. commit)
- Dontea Jones, WR, 6-4, 230, Louisville (Three-star, Mississippi St. commit)
- Gabriel Campbell, DE, 6-6, 250, Yazoo City (Three-star, uncommitted)
