Twitter reacts to 'Uncle Verne' stepping down as SEC on CBS announcer
“Oh my!”
Although many don’t care for Verne Lundquist, he’s engrained in the culture of SEC football. Most of us have grown up with Lundquist calling SEC games on Saturdays, and we’re all tuning in every week to see which game he will call the following Saturday.
And, sadly, he’s now stepping down from calling “SEC on CBS” games after the 2016 season, and it was announced that Brad Nessler will succeed Lundquist in 2017.
People took to Twitter, as both “Uncle Verne” and “Verne Lundquist” were both trending on the social media platform. Mostly, folks were sad that Lundquist is stepping down as the play-by-play announcer:
? Sad day. Uncle Verne is the standard. https://t.co/kGU04ltgwQ

Saw Verne Lundquist trending. Got scared. Read he's leaving the booth. Fear turned to relief turned to sadness. Love me some Uncle Verne.
