It was a rough Saturday for a pair of teams in the SEC. In fact, they have plenty in common, are proud to call themselves “DBU” and consider each other annual rivals. Now they’re looking for a bounce-back game.

LSU suffered a humbling defeat to Ole Miss in a game where the defense was exposed throughout the game. As Dan Wolken and the USA Today “Misery Index” points out, “LSU’s defense has been atrocious, both against Florida State in the opener (a 45-24 loss) and in allowing 706 yards to an Ole Miss offense that struggled to do anything a week ago against Alabama,” he wrote.

Then made a reference to Brian Kelly’s contract, and said Kelly isn’t living up to his $95 million deal.

“That’s a level of unseriousness LSU could have gotten for a lot less than $9.5 million a year,” Wolken wrote, and added, “its fan base has every right to be furious with the way this is going so far. Last year, LSU wasn’t supposed to be very good but managed to get a couple good wins and finished 10-4. It seemed to be setting up for a real run in Year 2, when the great coaches typically show how great they are.”

As for Florida, routinely losing to Kentucky is now an annual problem after the Gators dropped a 3rd straight game to the Wildcats.

“That’s a problem for Florida, and specifically for coach Billy Napier, who fell to 0-2 against the Wildcats after a 33-14 loss in Lexington,” Wolken wrote. “You can’t normalize this if you’re the Gators, but the reality is Kentucky has won 4 of the last 6 meetings in this series. That means Kentucky, for now, is just a better program than Florida.”
