Verne Lunquist and Gary Danielson reclaim their title
Don’t call it a comeback. After a mistaken identity and an obvious comment propelled ESPN duo Brad Nessler and Todd Blackledge last week, Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson reclaimed their spot in this week’s announcers feature. The three-time champions gained consideration for a number of things during their broadcast of Alabama vs Ole Miss on CBS this past weekend.
The most notable reason was Verne Lundquist’s comparison of a player to Andreas Dibowksi. If the reference went over your head, you’re not alone. Dibowski is a German equestrian competitor who won a gold medal in team eventing at the 2008 Summer Olympics. While those accolades are impressive, the reference is a head scratcher as it relates to any player on either team.
Lundquist and Danielson made several other flubs of the course of the game. Check out the duo’s notable mishaps via Twitter below:
“Very clever play calling by both sides.” — Gary Danielson after exactly one play, by #OleMiss, in #ALAvsMISS ??

According to Gary Danielson, there are about 12 #1 overall recruits playing in the Ole Miss- Alabama game.

CBS’ Gary Danielson mighty peeved that a photographer was snapping photos of ref as he went off field. I can confirm it wasn’t @photovman

Gary Danielson casually referring to “Nick” as if he’s his biological twin is creepier than anything Musberger has ever said about a coed.

“Just forget the coverage, throw him the ball.” Gary Danielson, on a play where Amari Cooper was wide open. That’s not forgetting the covg.

Two concepts Gary Danielson doesn’t understand: “Bunch formation” and “Irony.”

Gary Danielson is stupid
