Louisville coach Bobby Petrino was not happy heading into halftime.

The No. 5 Cardinals were losing 10-7 at two-win Virginia, but his displeasure seemed to have more to do with the officials than with his team’s performance. Petrino was jawing at the referees before he conducted a brief-but-heated interview with ABC’s sideline reporter.

When asked what he said to the officials, Petrino was blunt.

“They called three holding penalties in a two-minute drive,” the visibly irritated coach said. “And then, before the game they always say, ‘Anything you need, coach, we’ll come over and talk to you.’ They won’t come over and talk to me.”

Whether the officials have played a role or not, Louisville has an uphill battle in the second half if it wants to stay in the playoff hunt.
