The exploitation or non-exploitation by universities of their student athletes has been a hotly-debated topic for years. And now those same student-athletes are doing more to get their side of the story out to the public.

According to USAtoday.com, former LSU WR Abram Booty is making a movie about the debate, pointing out that players aren’t allowed to make any money off of their skills in college while the universities profit substantially from those players’ skills.

(Whether or not highly-skilled players actually go home with empty pockets is another argument entirely.)

Abram is not as well known as his brothers-USC QB John David Booty and LSU QB Josh Booty-but he has already garnered support from some big names in sports.

According to foxsports.com, Abram has recruited former Michigan Heisman winner Desmond Howard, former Cal star QB Aaron Rodgers and former Miami LB Ray Lewis.

The film is titles, “Work Horses: The Truth Beneath the Glory.”

Abrams said he began writing the script after the 2007 Rose Bowl when he saw one of John David’s teammates, Rose Bowl MVP and USC WR Dwayne Jarrett, walking to McDonald’s for dinner because that was all he could afford.

“Here was a kid, less than a mile from where he had just hoisted the AT&T Rose Bowl MVP trophy in front of millions of people, now alone and trying to find a cheap meal,” Abram said. “Meanwhile, the gluttony of TV cameras, sponsor events, and post game parties raged on in his shadow.”
