Alabama and Georgia are among the five teams with the best odds of making it to the College Football Playoff this season, and their positions in the first AP Poll — No. 1 and No. 3, respectively — confirm that.

However, according to Sports Illustrated experts Andy Staples, Ross Dellenger and Joan Niesen, neither is considered to be a “lock” to make it to the final four this season.

During the debate in the video below, all three of them say that the fact that the Tide and Bulldogs both play in the SEC makes it difficult to consider either a lock:

The panel agreed that Clemson is the biggest lock, simply because they don’t think there’s a team in the ACC that can challenge the Tigers.

However, the SEC has gotten two teams into the Playoff before, so it’s certainly possible that it could happen once again this season.
