WATCH: Stanford scores TD on one of the luckiest, most-bizarre passes of bowl season
The Stanford Cardinal and Pitt Panthers played in the Sun Bowl in El Paso on Monday, and it was a low-scoring affair.
The Cardinal held on for a narrow 14-13 win, but the way they won the game was one of the craziest plays in Stanford history (though the band on the field game still takes the cake).
As you can see in the video below, QB K.J. Costello tries to run for the end zone, but gets tackled. As he’s fumbling the ball, he flings it forward, where RB Cameron Scarlett was waiting to make the unlikely catch:

The play was ruled a fumble by Costello, with a 1-yard run by Scarlett on the recovery leading to the score.
However, it looks like one of the wildest pass attempts in history, and it ended up being the game-winning score.
