Alabama stuffed Leonard Fournette into a corner and kept him there.

But Alabama’s defense is built to stop the run.

The Tide had no such luck either time it faced dual-threat QB Johnny Manziel, which leads us to the most pressing question (and answer) entering Week 11 …

Question: Dual-threat QBs have given Alabama fits. Most notably Manziel. Can Mississippi State’s Dak Prescott derail Alabama’s championship dreams Saturday?

Garcia: Dak Prescott and Johnny Manziel are two completely different types of threats running the ball. Dak is a downhill, between the tackles Tebow-esque type runner while Manziel was a speed/shifty type runner.

The Crimson Tide defense has been completely shutting down opponents’ run game this year, especially over the last few games. They will have their hands full with Prescott and the Bulldogs offense, and if Dak plays well, he will launch himself back in to the Heisman conversation.

I expect Alabama to force Prescott to stay in the pocket and not scramble around and make plays down the field. It should be a very interesting matchup.

Question: Can Florida win the SEC Championship Game with Treon Harris at QB?

Garcia: Well, we know they will be in Atlanta. The SEC West is still up for grabs, but Alabama controls its destiny after getting by LSU.

I think Harris has improved as a passer from last year, but he still isn’t going to beat anyone with his arm. The Gators’ offense was clicking on all cylinders with Will Grier before his suspension. Harris’ strengths are his speed and mobility. He can make pretty much all the throws on the run as well, but if you keep him contained and in the pocket, you really shut down what he’s good at.

I just don’t see the Gators’ offense with Harris moving the ball against a defense such as Alabama’s.

He did play well against LSU in Baton Rouge, but Bama’s defense is a different animal, as we saw this past weekend. There’s still a lot of football to be played and Harris has time to work on his deficiencies.

Question: Which two teams feel better about their QB play this week than a month ago?

Garcia: South Carolina with Perry Orth and Auburn with Sean White and Jeremy Johnson.

Orth has been playing well recently and seems to have gained a lot of confidence after getting the vote of confidence from Coach Shawn Elliot. I can assure you, it’s a lot better for your team when you have a quarterback the coach believes in.

A few weeks ago, Auburn quarterback Sean White didn’t have a college touchdown pass. He has played much better since he took over for Johnson. After being sidelined with an injury, Johnson came in and played extremely well and didn’t turn the ball over. He wasn’t forcing the ball into triple coverage and just slinging it. He was reading the defense and making the accurate throws to the correct receiver.

Those two programs have to be more excited about their quarterback situation than they were last month.

Question: You are Patrick Towles. Your team was 4-1, you were rolling. A bowl bid seemed inevitable. Now … everything looks lost. How do you get it back?

Garcia: He — and that Wildcats offense — needs a giant spark. He was playing very well and the offense was rolling. I’m not sure when it all went wrong. Maybe it was the loss to Florida, but something needs to happen.

Towles is, in my opinion, one of the better quarterbacks in the SEC. He seems to have lost his confidence and is playing very tight. I really hope he can get back on track and regain the confidence because he is a tremendous player and competitor.

Question: Have you ever seen an SEC offense just give up on passing like Vanderbilt apparently has?

Garcia: No. Not even remotely close. I don’t know what they are trying to accomplish either. Do they just not have any faith in the passing game or do they just believe they have a solid run game? I don’t have the answer to that. All I know is that I would hate to play in that offense.

Obviously, Florida has a pretty good pass defense, but you have to at least keep those guys on their toes and throw it over their heads.

I think Johnny McCrary is pretty good and has the ability to make plays with his feet and his arm, but the Vandy offense has been abysmal lately.
