The SEC Players of the Week were handed out Monday and after a week of upset bids and blowout wins, the SEC featured six teams in this week’s honors.

The winner of the Mississippi State-Arkansas shootout had this week’s award locked up. The two quarterbacks (Mississippi State QB Dak Prescott and Arkansas QB Brandon Allen) accounted for over 1,050 total yards and 14 TDs.

In the final seconds of the back-and-forth battle, Bulldogs special teamer Beniquez Brown blocked Arkansas PK Cole Hedlund’s 29-yard field goal to win the game and lock up this week’s Player of the Week award for his QB, Prescott.

In his second career start, Ole Miss OLB DeMarquis Gates is already starting to make an impression in the SEC. Gates leads the Rebels in tackles with 62, including 39 in the past five games.

Both Co-Special Teams Player of the Award winners had record-setting performances in blowout wins. Brown made what may be the special teams play of the year in the SEC.

Despite freshman QB Drew Barker getting the victory is his first career start, safety Mike Edwards finished with more touchdowns and thus gets the nod this week. The Wildcats desperately needed a win as Edwards proved to be a big reason why Kentucky was able to snap a five-game losing streak.

Seven of the 12 SEC OL of the Week awards have gone to Arkansas or LSU. With Thomas’ win this week Tennessee becomes just the third team this season to win multiple SEC OL of the Week honors.

With just 21 sacks given up and the second most rushing yards in the SEC, it’s hard to imagine why it’s taken this long.

Haynes’ third SEC Player of the Week award in five weeks gives him the most of any defensive lineman this season. Haynes leads the Rebels with 13.0 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks.
