For college football fans who want to know what the smartest folks in the desert think of their team heading into Week 9, Phil Steele is the go-to source. Steele, who has contacts at Las Vegas sportsbooks, compiles ratings which he says, โclosely resemble Vegasโs numbers.” The college football guru recently shared his latest Vegas Power Ratings.
Steele has updated his Vegas Ratings for all 130 FBS teams ahead of Week 9. The difference between two teamsโ Vegas Ratings gives an idea of what the betting line would be if they played Saturday on a neutral field. Hereโs where the 14 SEC teams stand heading into Week 9:
- Georgia โ No. 1 overall ranking (138.45 Vegas Rating)
- Alabama โ No. 2 (136.69)
- Florida โ No. 7 (122.12)
- Texas A&M โ No. 9 (121.71)
- Ole Miss โ No. 10 (121.25)
- Kentucky โ No. 12 (120.18)
- Auburn โ No. 16 (119.43)
- Arkansas โ No. 22 (117.81)
- Tennessee โ No. 35 (113.99)
- Mississippi State โ No. 37 (113.23)
- LSU โ No. 39 (113.17)
- Missouri โ No. 84 (103.60)
- South Carolina โ No. 89 (100.51)
- Vanderbilt โ No. 123 (87.02)
As for the power ratings not reflecting prior results on the field, hereโs what Steele says, using Oregonโs win over Ohio State as an example:
You will notice this week that Ohio State is rated #3 and Oregon is #14. You will say, but Oregon beat Ohio State on the road by a TD so how can Ohio State be rated higher? This is not an AP ranking but if Ohio State played Oregon again this week at a neutral site the Buckeyes who were favored by 15 at home would be favored by 13 at a neutral site this week.
Vegas Ratings for all 130 FBS teams can be found onย Steeleโs website.
