Dawn Staley had some words about South Carolina’s somewhat controversial 36-33 loss to the LSU Tigers on Saturday.

The game came down to the last seconds, ending on a missed field goal opportunity by Shane Beamer’s team that would have tied the game and sent it into overtime. Looking back at the way this one played out, there were several self-inflicted wounds by the Gamecocks, but also some controversial calls made by the referees.

That’s exactly the sentiment the South Carolina women’s basketball coach reflected when she took to X to express her feelings on a game that was so close, yet so far away for the team.

She thanked the fans and the coaching staff before saying “We let this one slip away… by our own doing and a little help from the game managers.”

The Gamecocks will look to get back on the right track after a highly impressive 2-0 start that put the college football world on notice. That will start with next week’s matchup against Akron, which should be a sound tune-up game for South Carolina.
