Former South Carolina running back Tavien Feaster could be getting closer to an NFL opportunity.

On Wednesday, the Detroit Lions announced that they had signed Feaster to their practice squad. Feaster played for South Carolina in 2019, after playing his first three college seasons for Clemson.

Feaster didn’t get drafted earlier this year, but he signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars, who later cut him in August. Then, Feaster signed with the New York Giants later that month, but he was released on Sept. 8, just before the start of the 2020 season.

In his lone season with the Gamecocks, Feaster rushed for 672 yards and five touchdowns in 10 games. He rushed for 1,330 yards and 15 touchdowns over his three seasons at Clemson.

The Lions placed practice squad running back Kerrith Whyte on injured reserve earlier this week, which led to their signing of Feaster. However, they currently have four running backs on their active roster (Adrian Peterson, Kerryon Johnson, D’Andre Swift and Jamal Agnew), so it could be a while before Feaster gets a chance to play (if he does).

Still, it’s an opportunity for Feaster to prove himself to an NFL franchise and perhaps move closer to making his professional debut down the line.
