Brad Johnson is staying home. The Pendleton native chose the Gamecocks over Virginia Tech Wednesday during a signing day ceremony held at his high school.

Rated as a four-star prospect, Johnson rates as the nation’s No. 22 strong-side defensive end in the nation and the No. 3 overall prospect from South Carolina, according to 247Sports. The 6-foot-3, 230-pound Johnson also held offers from Mississippi State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Michigan State, and Wisconsin, among others.

The Gamecocks now have 25 total commitments lined up for its 2017 recruiting class, including five early enrollees already on campus. The South Carolina class now rates as the SEC’s No. 8 overall recruiting class.
