The Gamecocks recently officially added some depth to the team’s receiving unit as transfer Jalen Brooks is now listed on the team’s 2020 roster.

At this point, it is unclear if Brooks is eligible for the 2020 season but considering he is transferring up a level from Division II, there’s a chance Brooks sees the field for the Gamecocks this fall.

Brooks’ path to South Carolina has been an interesting one as he spent the spring semester at Tarleton State in Texas but never played for the program. Following his arrival at Tarleton State, Brooks later entered the NCAA transfer portal and in early August, announced his transfer to South Carolina.

The Gamecocks’ newest receiver began his college football career at Wingate, where he earned First-Team All-South Atlantic Conference honors after catching 35 passes for 751 yards and six touchdowns.

Brooks is originally from Harrisburg, N.C. and played for Hickory Ridge High School.

He currently has three years to play two seasons for the Gamecocks.
