South Carolina is entering the season searching for help at the receiver position and one name that has garnered a ton of buzz during camp in Columbia has been Jalen Brooks.

A transfer from Tarleton State in Texas, Brooks spent the 2019 season at Wingate where he earned First-Team All-South Atlantic Conference honors. Due to the fact he transferred twice this offseason, Brooks arrived at South Carolina ineligible to play for the Gamecocks this fall.

In order to play, the NCAA needed to provide Brooks a waiver. On Tuesday, Will Muschamp announced the NCAA has denied Brooks a waiver to play this season.

South Carolina has appealed the decision, so there still is a chance Brooks plays for the Gamecocks this season but it doesn’t appear he will be available for the season opener against Tennessee.

It didn’t take long for Brooks to impress his new teammates in Columbia as the receiver was the first player mentioned when Jaycee Horn was asked about which receivers stood out early on during camp.

“81, I think his name Jalen Brooks, the transfer,” Horn answered. “Today was his first day. He the real deal.”

The Gamecocks are set to host the Vols on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. ET / 6:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network.
