South Carolina pulled off its latest upset of Kentucky on Tuesday as the Gamecocks scored a 79-62 victory on Tuesday night in Columbia. It was the largest win over an AP top-10 team in program history.

CBS Sports insider Jon Rothstein suggested off that win that Lamont Paris’ team could have a higher ceiling than initially thought. He noted that the Gamecocks on Tuesday were without Myles Stute, one of their best offensive players. Kentucky coach John Calipari also noted that South Carolina is the best defensive team in the SEC.

“When he took the South Carolina job, he told me he wasn’t going to get players as good as Kentucky, as good as Tennessee, but he was going to have to learn how to manage the game,” Rothstein said of Paris, a former Wisconsin assistant. “If you look at the way South Carolina executes, he is building a Wisconsin-style program in the SEC. Don’t turn the ball over, you control the pace. It’s like getting a root canal without the novocaine.”
