Juice Wells appears to troll Shane Beamer, his former coach, after Gator Bowl TD
Juice Wells may have played at South Carolina, but there aren’t many fond feelings left between the 2 sides.
When the Ole Miss receiver transferred from the Gamecocks after last season, he spared no feelings on his way out the door. On Thursday, in his final game for the Rebels, he scored a first-quarter touchdown in the Gator Bowl against Duke and then seemingly trolled South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer with his celebration.
Beamer set the internet ablaze on Tuesday when he had to be restrained from going after Illinois head coach Bret Bielema late in the third quarter of the Citrus Bowl. Beamer felt Bielema was taunting him and his team.
Maybe Wells didn’t notice and was deep in bowl prep for Duke. Maybe his touchdown celebration was purely a coincidence. But that would be a mighty big coincidence. It feels a little too on the nose.
Wells transferred from James Madison to South Carolina ahead of the 2022 season. He spent 2 years with the Gamecocks, caught 71 passes for 965 yards and 7 touchdowns, and then left for Oxford.
In 2023, Wells played in just 3 games because of injury. When he left, he told an Ole Miss podcast he did so to play with a quarterback who “can actually control the offense” and be part of a winning program. “I don’t like losing,” he said then.
Wells entered Thursday’s bowl game with 27 receptions for 521 yards and 5 scores. He ranks fourth on the team in receiving.
