Juice Wells and South Carolina got off to a great start at Georgia on Saturday as the Gamecocks opened the scoring with a first-quarter touchdown.

Wells caught a 17-yard touchdown pass with 9:56 remaining as the Gamecocks became the first team this season to score in the first quarter against the Bulldogs.

CBS Sports’ Jenny Dell later reported that Wells went into the injury tent after the touchdown, and came out without his left shoe on, and then went to the locker room.

Wells has long been a key target for the Gamecocks, as he was the Gamecocks’ top receiver last season with 68 catches for 928 yards and 6 touchdowns. He had more catches and receiving yards than the next 2 receivers combined.

Spencer Rattler got off to a hot start on Saturday as he started 9-for-9 passing for 75 yards.

The Gamecocks stalled a Georgia drive after 15 plays and 62 yards as they held the home team to a field goal. Shane Beamer told Dell at the quarter break that Wells suffered a broken bone in his foot, and is likely out for the game, but a screw already in there may help the healing process.
