Juice Wells update: Shane Beamer offers latest on South Carolina WR
Juice Wells suffered a broken bone on Saturday and left the Georgia game in the first half after he caught a touchdown pass.
On Tuesday, Shane Beamer told reporters at his regular weekly press conference that the injury is not necessarily season ending. Beamer told CBS Sports during the game Saturday that because Wells already had a screw in the foot from a previous injury, this situation may heal faster.
Wells saw a specialist on Tuesday morning, and is out for this week’s game against Mississippi State. But Beamer said the Gamecocks would monitor the situation, and “do what’s best for him.”
Wells has 3 catches for 37 yards and a TD this season.
Last year, Wells was the Gamecocks’ top receiver with 68 catches for 928 yards and 6 touchdowns. That was more catches and receiving yards than the next 2 receivers combined.
Wells last season ranked 3rd in the SEC with 5.23 receptions per game and fourth with 71.38 receiving yards per game. His 68 receptions and 928 receiving yards both ranked as the 8th-best single-season marks in school history.
