University of South Carolina Hall of Fame QB Johnny Gramling passed away at the age of 85 on Friday night, according to The State.

In his 85 years, though, Gramling led an interesting life.

After playing quarterback for the South Carolina Gamecocks from 1951 to 1953, where he became the first South Carolina quarterback to throw for 2,000 career yards, Gramling played in the Canadian Football League for one season before joining the Air Force.

Upon his return to Orangeburg, South Carolina, he became a farmer and married former Miss USA Betty Lane Cherry Gramling.

Gramling finished his South Carolina career with 2,007 passing yards and 18 touchdowns.
