Mack Brown has a long history with the Beamer family, and as the North Carolina coach gets set to play Shane Beamer and South Carolina, he reflected on spending time with Frank Beamer, and watching Shane grow up.
“I’m really, really proud of Shane,” Brown said. “He did a tremendous job in his early years at South Carolina. He’s got so much energy and so much momentum going and I’m proud for him. Don’t want him to win his opener, but I’m still really proud of what he’s done.”
The Tar Heels and Gamecocks last met in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl 2 seasons ago, a South Carolina win, 38-21. This year’s season opener between the teams in Charlotte is gaining publicity as ESPN’s “College GameDay” will be on hand to kick off the season.
UNC coach Mack Brown incredibly complimentary of @CoachSBeamer today at ACC Kickoff.
Says he and Shane’s dad Frank are good friends, and he watched Shane grow up.
“Did a tremendous job in his early years at South Carolina… now has so much energy…so much momentum.”
