South Carolina is preparing to enter its first season under head coach Shane Beamer, who was a former Gamecock assistant under Steve Spurrier.
Now, as Beamer tries to put together his first South Carolina coaching staff, he’s reportedly nearing a major hire.
Per Yahoo’s Pete Thamel, the Gamecocks are expected to hire Western Kentucky DC Clayton White to the same position:
Sources: South Carolina is finalizing a deal to hire Western Kentucky DC Clayton White as the program's new defensive coordinator. White is a former assistant at NC State, Stanford and UConn and has been a sought after DC candidate the past two years.

White doesn’t have any SEC experience, but he has had a lot of success at Western Kentucky since joining the staff in 2017.
Will Beamer be able to keep White around? The Gamecocks recently lost both OC Mike Bobo and OL coach Will Friend to Auburn.
