Mike Bobo is reportedly making a quarterback change in his second game as South Carolina’s interim head coach. Mike Uva of WACH FOX 57 and GamecockCentral of Rivals are each reporting, per their sources, that true freshman Luke Doty will get the start against No. 9 Georgia.

It will be the first start of Doty’s career. Graduate transfer Collin Hill has started the 8 other Gamecocks games in the 2020 season. In last week’s 17-10 loss to Missouri, Doty played the second half in relief of Hill.

Doty was 14-of-23 passing for 130 yards and an interception against the Tigers. He also logged 11 carries for 59 rushing yards. Doty has appeared in six total games this season, but recorded just one other pass attempt and five rushes in those five other games. He will be facing a Georgia passing defense ranked No. 10 in the SEC, allowing 273.3 yards per game through the air. The Dawgs are No. 4 in the conference when it comes to snagging picks with 7 interceptions through 7 games.

Out of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Doty was rated 4-stars, the No. 2 Palmetto State product, No. 4 dual-threat quarterback and No. 86 prospect overall nationally on the 247Sports Composite.

Saturday’s game is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on the SEC Network. Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs come into Columbia looking for revenge last year’s upset win by South Carolina between the hedges in Athens.
