Rod Wilson will be staying close to home as the former Gamecock player and coach has landed a new coaching opportunity inside the Palmetto State.

Fresh off an 11-win season, Coastal Carolina announced the hire of Wilson as the program’s new inside linebackers coach. Coastal Carolina finished as the No. 14 ranked team in the nation in the final AP poll of the 2020 college football season.

Last season, Wilson coached linebackers for the Gamecocks after serving three seasons as an assistant special teams coach with the Kansas City Chiefs. During that time, Wilson won a Super Bowl ring coaching in Kansas City.

Wilson played for the Gamecocks before embarking on a six-year playing career in the NFL where he appeared in 51 games for the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
