Shane Beamer would roll with LaNorris Sellers as his starting quarterback if South Carolina had a game to play today.

On Monday, Beamer met with media members in Florence as part of the “Welcome Home Tour.” He was asked if he had a QB1 announcement to make.

Beamer offered that Sellers is QB1 coming out of spring. The head coach clarified, though, that Sellers will continue to compete with Auburn transfer Robby Ashford.

“We will continue to compete at all positions,” Beamer told media members in Florence.

“The headline is going to be, ‘Beamer names LaNorris Sellers starting quarterback.’ LaNorris is the starting quarterback coming out of spring.

The head coach continued, “Robby did a great job during spring practice along with our other quarterbacks. LaNorris did a great job and I expect LaNorris to continue to compete and continue to earn that position as well.”

Sellers entering second year with Gamecocks

A South Florence (South Carolina) High standout, Sellers was a 4-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting class. He signed with the Gamecocks over offers from Syracuse, Virginia, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and others.

With Spencer Rattler serving as QB1 last season, Sellers saw limited playing time. He appeared against Furman, Vanderbilt and Kentucky, allowing him to take a redshirt for the season.

Sellers got to show off his arm in the Furman game, completing 4 passes for 2 touchdowns, including a 50-yard bomb.

Against Vanderbilt, Sellers showed that he’s a true dual-threat.

Sellers’ 2023 snaps have plenty of Gamecock fans excited to see what he can do this fall as the starter.
