Shane Beamer has taken a clear approach to recruiting efforts at South Carolina, and it’s developed into a trend that has led the Gamecocks to a top 20 recruiting class.

In an interview with WSPA-7, Beamer said he credits the recruiting success to being genuine with prospects and families throughout the process.

“The word that comes up all the time when we deal with high school families, prospects and their families, is the word genuine,” Beamer said. “‘Coach, you guys are so genuine, Coach, you guys are so real.’ And I think sometimes that gets lost a little bit in recruiting.”

The Gamecocks’ 2023 recruiting class ranks 18th in the country with 8 4-star prospects.

“Prospects and their families are smart, they can figure out who’s telling them a bunch of stuff they want to hear, and who’s just being honest with them, and truthful,” Beamer said.

Since Beamer was hired at South Carolina, Beamer said there are so many great players within a three to four-hour radius of Columbia that that would be a priority. However, because of his background at Virginia Tech, the Gamecocks have found success in the Washington area around the mid-Atlantic.

As Beamer’s recruits begin to gain more playing time over Will Muschamp’s, South Carolina will show if these efforts will pay off down the road.
