Administrators and mayors in college communities might want to consult Will Muschamp when it comes to fighting the spread of COVID-19.
According to reports, the University of South Carolina community in Columbia is seeing the virus spread with students back on campus. Josh Kendall of The Athletic noted an increase in active cases from 46 on Aug. 20 to 189 less than a week later. The Daily Gamecock reported that the number has more than doubled with USC now at 380 active cases.
Meanwhile, the Gamecock football team is COVID-19 free, as Will Muschamp shared on Thursday night’s “Carolina Calls.”
“We reported on August 17 with our football team, we tested everyone in the building, right around 300 tests, and we had one positive,” Muschamp said, per John Whittle of 247Sports. “We tested again another 300 tests on Wednesday and we had zero positives. We’ve had one (positive test) in over 600 tests the last two weeks in our building.”
Muschamp gave credit to his staff.
“I want to really recognize Clint Haggard and his staff and the wonderful job they’ve done in the protocols we have set in place for our players and staff,” Muschamp said, per 247Sports. “George Wynn, our operations director, they’ve done an unbelievable job as far as orchestrating everything we need to do to make it the safest environment possible for the student-athletes.”
Living the boring, dateless “Paul Finebaum life” seems to be working for South Carolina football players.
When South Carolina started fall classes on Aug. 20, it registered 46 active cases of COVID-19. Five days later, it has updated its COVID Tracker to 189 active cases.
