South Carolina had already landed one defensive addition on Thursday, when former Georgia Southern defensive back David Spaulding announced he was transferring to the school. Then, the Gamecocks got a commitment from another transfer.

Former Delaware linebacker Darryl “Debo” Williams announced on Twitter that he has committed to the Gamecocks after beginning his college career with the Fightin’ Blue Hens. However, Delaware didn’t play a season this past fall due to the COVID-19 pandemic, instead opting for an upcoming spring season. But now, Williams won’t be there for it.

A 6-foot, 225-pound linebacker out of Smyrna (Del.) High School, Williams was a 3-star recruit in the 2020 class. He was the No. 1 overall recruit out of Delaware, per the 247Sports Composite rankings, and he committed to the Fightin’ Blue Hens on Dec. 18, 2019.

Williams announced his transfer decision with a tweet featuring a graphic showing him in a Gamecocks uniform:

After two straight losing seasons, South Carolina hired Shane Beamer to be its new head coach and try to lead the program in the right direction. The Gamecocks’ changes have apparently appealed to some players outside the program, considering the two defensive transfers they just landed.
