South Carolina has reportedly seen 2 of its quarterbacks decide to transfer for the 2024 season.

According to a report Wednesday from The Big Spur, South Carolina has 2 scholarship quarterbacks who intend to enter the transfer portal. Redshirt freshman Tanner Bailey and redshirt sophomore Colten Gauthier intend to leave the Gamecock program. This is big news after starting quarterback Spencer Rattler announced Wednesday that he was foregoing his final year of eligibility to enter the 2024 NFL Draft.

Gauthier, the redshirt sophomore quarterback, was a 3-star prospect in the 2021 class according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. The 6-foot-3, 214-pound sophomore only attempted 3 career passes over his 3 seasons in Columbia. He completed 2-of-3 passes for 34 yards.

Bailey, the redshirt freshman quarterback, was a 4-star prospect in the 2022 class according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Bailey, who’s 6-foot-1 and 215 pounds, never attempted a pass in his two seasons with the Gamecocks. The freshman was originally committed to the Oregon Ducks as a recruit before switching his commitment to South Carolina.

South Carolina still has 2 quarterbacks remaining on the roster with junior Luke Doty and freshman LaNorris Sellers.

South Carolina finished the 2023 season at 5-7 and 3-5 in SEC play. The Gamecocks fell 16-7 in their final game of the season to rival Clemson.
