One day after his team’s 45-42 loss to Tennessee, South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier answered questions about his coaching future.

Asked about his mindset to continue coaching, Spurrier admitted he’s weighed his options, but remains optimistic of South Carolina’s football program moving forward.

“That thought process has hit me the last 10 years when you have a game like this,” Spurrier said. “We have some good players here. We think we believe we have help on the way. We think we have some good defensive players and good offensive players, too. But we will see how all of that plays out.”

Despite a head coaching career that’s spanned four decades, Spurrier claims he’s not used to “heartbreaking” losses.

“I like to beat teams when it looks like you are supposed to beat them,” Spurrier said. “These are not losses I am used to having (during my career). These things haven’t happened in the past. I guess you coach long enough odds are things are going to happen. I am not the only coach that loses a heartbreaking game.

“We had our chances as we know and didn’t get it done. I thought we had some enthusiasm. We plan to go to Florida and give them our best shot then come home (vs. South Alabama) and then go to Clemson.”

Spurrier refused to answer questions during his postgame press conference Saturday. After a brief recap of his team’s performance, Spurrier said, “I don’t need to take any questions. You guys watched it. I just need to get out of here for a while,” and left.
