When Tavien Feaster was officially added to the South Carolina roster, it was expected that the running back depth chart would undergo some churn. That has apparently begun.

RB Lavonte Valentine, who was down the depth chart for the Gamecocks, has entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to SEC Network analyst Cole Cubelic.

Valentine, a former high school track star from Melbourne, Florida, was an early enrollee in 2018, and expected to contribute track speed to the backfield. But he missed the spring that year and much of the fall while he recovered from a knee injury that required surgery that he suffered in high school. He ultimately redshirted as a true freshman.

Now with Feaster, a Clemson transfer, on the roster, there are at least four backs ahead of Valentine on the depth chart, beginning with Rico Dowdle, A.J. Turner, Mon Denson and presumably Feaster once he acclimates to the program.
