This isn’t the way South Carolina wanted to start off the season.

Touted defensive lineman Tyreek Johnson has a torn ACL, according to 247Sports’ The Big Spur. The Sumpter, South Carolina, native enrolled last January despite signing with the Gamecocks in the 2017 class, and he took a greyshirt last year to rehab an injury.

Johnson was rated a 3-star prospect, and he was ranked as the nation’s No. 41 overall SDE and the Palmetto State’s No. 14 overall prospect in the class of 2017, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Muschamp won’t speak to the media until Saturday, and we’ll have to wait for confirmation.

Johnson’s loss isn’t monumental, but anytime any team loses depth along the defensive line, it’s a big loss.
