Will Muschamp on Tuesday during his weekly news conference joined the slew of coaches who expressed sympathy for former LSU coach Les Miles after he was fired Sunday.

The first-year South Carolina coach said he was “disappointed” for Miles, who he called “a good football coach and a good man.” Muschamp has gone toe-to-toe with Miles several times over the past decade, most recently as Auburn’s defensive coordinator in 2015 but most notably as Florida’s head coach from 2011-2014. He was 1-3 against LSU as the Gators’ coach.

Muschamp served as defensive backs coach at LSU in 2001 before being promoted to defensive coordinator for the next three seasons. He followed coach Nick Saban to the Miami Dolphins, a move that opened the door for Miles’ tenure with the Tigers.
