When you’re preparing to take on the Georgia Bulldogs, the thing that immediately jumps out on tape is the running game.
Led by RBs Nick Chubb, Sony Michel and D’Andre Swift, the Bulldogs have one of the best backfields in the country and have simply been running through opponents all year.
As the South Carolina Gamecocks prepare to head to Athens this weekend, coach Will Muschamp knows his team is in for quite the challenge.
During his Tuesday press conference, Muschamp said limiting the big runs is the key to having success against the Bulldogs (via 247Sports):
“You have to limit the explosive runs. Right now, they are over 80 [plays] with 10-yard plus runs,” Muschamp said. “It might be more than that now. I know in tracking that through the year, they have been a team that is very explosive in the running game and you’ve got to limit the explosive runs.”
That’s easier said than done, obviously, and even if you stop the Bulldogs’ ground game, QB Jake Fromm has shown some explosive tendencies in the passing game.
If South Carolina wants to stay alive in the SEC East, though, it needs to hand Georgia its first loss of the year.
Saturday afternoon’s SEC East showdown kicks off at 3:30 p.m. Eastern time and can be seen on CBS.
