Will Muschamp reveals 2 more South Carolina opt-outs; 1 Gamecock opting back in
South Carolina coach Will Muschamp had some news about the Gamecocks’ roster on Thursday. Muschamp revealed two new opt-outs while one player is opting back into football activities.
Muschamp shared that Randrecous Davis and OrTre Smith are opting out due to COVID-19 concerns.
“I totally understand and respect their decisions,” Muschamp said, per Josh Kendall of The Athletic.
While those two Gamecocks are opting out, one player will be rejoining South Carolina in fall camp practices. Muschamp revealed that Jordan Rhodes is opting back in for 2020. Rhodes will have to clear COVID-19 protocols. Muschamp also noted Rhodes will need “a couple of weeks” to get back into football shape. South Carolina’s season-opener against Tennessee is still over three weeks away (Sept. 26).
In late August, Muschamp revealed that Smith, expected to be a key member of South Carolina’s receiving corps, had not been practicing due to an undisclosed issue.
“This is a different time. They have been first-class people in our program and will continue to be.” OL Jordan Rhodes has decided to opt back in but it will take him “a couple weeks” to get into football shape.
