Will Muschamp reveals key WR hasn't been practicing with an injury, names who would start for Gamecocks at WR now
The South Carolina Gamecocks are going to have to fill some holes in the receiving corps this fall after losing Bryan Edwards to the NFL.
However, one key receiver, OrTre Smith, apparently hasn’t been practicing much due to a nagging injury.
On Saturday, coach Will Muschamp at least provided the positive update that it’s not a knee issue, which he’s dealt with the past couple of years:
Muschamp: OrTre Smith hasn't been practicing a lot. Has "a little bit of an issue." Not the knee that's been so problematic the past two years.

Smith’s absence has been enough that, if the season started tomorrow, Muschamp said he wouldn’t be starting. He named 3 receivers who are atop the depth chart now:
Muschamp: If Gamecocks started today, Shi Smith, Xavier Legette and transfer Jalen Brooks (if waiver granted) would start at WR. Dakereon Joyner and freshmen Luke Doty and Rico Powers also in that mix. OrTre Smith “hasn’t practiced the last couple days” due to undisclosed issue.

Fortunately for Muschamp and the Gamecocks, the season does not, in fact, start tomorrow. We’ll see if OrTre Smith can get back to work and get back into the starting receiver mix.
