A South Carolina 2020 signee will be sidelined for at least the start of his freshman season. Will Muschamp revealed Thursday that center Trai Jones will be out after recent surgery.
The surgery was needed after Jones injured his ankle in the Gamecocks’ Saturday scrimmage.
“Trai Jones had his ankle rolled up on pretty good,” Muschamp said on his call-in show, per 247Sports. “He had a similar surgery Donell Stanley had back in 2016. We’ll get him back. We decided to get the surgery done.”
Jones was rated 3-stars, the No. 9 recruit in the state of South Carolina, No. 15 center and No. 629 prospect overall nationally on the 247Sports Composite. He committed to the Gamecocks in June 2019 and signed over 13 other offers. Jones enrolled early at South Carolina and took part in abbreviated spring drills before the COVID-19 shutdown.
Muschamp did not offer a timeline for Jones’ return.
