South Carolina coordinator believes 5-star enrollee Zacch Pickens has potential that matches two of NFL’s best defenders
As if the hype for Zacch Pickens wasn’t already through the ceiling, South Carolina defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson took things to another level during his Wednesday media availability.
Surely by now you know the name Zacch Pickens but if you don’t, he was rated as a five-star prospect in the 2019 recruiting cycle and was listed as the No. 1 defensive tackle and No. 8 overall recruit in the nation by 247Sports Composite Rankings. Pickens enrolled early at South Carolina in order to participate in the team’s upcoming spring practices in order to give himself a better shot of contributing in the fall.
While Gamecock fans may have incredible expectations for the true freshman, their hopes may be nothing compared to what Robinson sees from the young lineman.
“You seen that guy that plays for the Eagles, 91 — Fletcher Cox? Probably something like that, that would be my ideal scenario,” Robinson said on Wednesday, in regards to what Pickens can become. “Disrupt everything, Aaron Donald type guy — which he has the capability to do one day. Obviously, he’s a freshman. He’s a long way from doing that right now. He’s learning the plays, he doesn’t even know what we are doing right now. He’s running around like a chicken with his head cut off right now.”
