Jalen Hurts is in a prime position to return to the College Football Playoff, this time as a member of the Oklahoma Sooners.

In overtime, Hurts and OU beat the Baylor Bears in a physical Big 12 Championship game 30-23. Hurts finished 17-of-24 for 287 yards passing with one touchdown, while rushing 23 times for just 38 yards. Sure, it wasn’t Hurts’ best game of the year, but he’s the main reason the Sooners are in this position.

However, just because Oklahoma won the Big 12 Championship, it likely has to have help to reach the Playoff. Now, the attention turns to No. 2 LSU vs. No. 4 Georgia in the SEC Championship. Basically, Oklahoma needs LSU to beat Georgia.

If Georgia upsets LSU — and pending the Big Ten Championship and ACC Championship, the existing top four — Ohio State, LSU, Clemson and Georgia — likely make the Playoff, leaving Oklahoma on the outside looking in.

So, for the first time in his life, Hurts will be rooting for the LSU Tigers in the SEC Championship Game.
