Deion Sanders pumps Travis Hunter as clear Heisman leader, slams ‘idiots’ from Thorpe Award

Deion Sanders believes the choice for the Heisman Trophy is clear this season. If there was any debate, Coach Prime believes it was settled on Black Friday.
During Colorado’s blowout win vs. Oklahoma State, Travis Hunter delivered a performance for the ages on both sides of the ball. He finished with over 100 yards receiving and 3 touchdowns while also recording an interception.
At his postgame press conference, Sanders made it clear Hunter is the best player in all of college football. He even took aim at the Thorpe Award selection committee with Hunter omitted from the list of 3 finalists for the top defensive back in the country.
“He’s the best player in college football. You can find ways to hate, to criticize, to condemn him and you won’t come out of that looking professional because now you’re just searching, like the idiots who was talking about in the Thorpe (Award) that I guess he didn’t have the tackles,” said Sanders. “Well, if a cornerback has a lot of tackles, he gave up a lot of balls. That’s just stupid.”
Sanders continued by saying it’s nothing new with Hunter showing his ability every week of the season. He has a point with Hunter recording his 4th game with a receiving touchdown and interception on Friday.
If Hunter doesn’t win, Sanders questions the very nature of the Heisman Trophy:
“Travis Hunter proved today, and he’s proven every week, he’s the best player in college football,” said Sanders. “So you’ve got to give me another definition of the award… the award is to go to who, the best quarterback?”
The prominent head coach finished by saying he doesn’t need to talk about the other contenders in the country and why other players should not win the Heisman Trophy. Instead, Sanders is focused on how great Hunter has been for Colorado.
“I don’t waste my time talking about other athletes up for the award, that’s not fair to them for me to voice my bold opinion on who should win the award and downgrade them,” Sanders explained. “I don’t have to downgrade them, Travis is him.”
