Joe Tessitore appeared at a recent Tallahassee Quarterback Club meeting, and faced some serious questions from Florida State fans.

Despite a 13-0 record and an ACC Championship title, Florida State did not make the cut for this season’s College Football Playoff. This prompted individuals at the meeting to ask questions about FSU.

Tessitore, a play-by-play announcer for ESPN who was on the call of the game against Louisville, tried his best to keep the focus on the club meeting.

“Guys, it’s football,” Tessitore said. “We’ve got people who got cancer diagnosis today. We’ve got people who are suffering from poverty. We’ve got young men who are telling me that they’re inspired because they’re overcoming hardships by their male role models.”

Tessitore then opened the floor to questions. An unnamed individual mentioned Kirk Herbstreit, Tessitore’s colleague, about his comments from a recent episode of College GameDay.

According to the individual, Herbstreit made a “predetermined” selection by saying FSU is out and Alabama is in if it beats Georgia, which the Crimson Tide successfully accomplished with a win in the SEC Championship game.

The individual then noted that since people are saying FSU is out of the CFP due to Jordan Travis’s injury, and the same happened to the Bulldogs due to the injuries they’ve face this season.

Tessitore, who defended Herbstreit, said “If Alabama runs the table and lead this team and that team, and then conquers No. 1 Georgia and wins the SEC, (Herbstreit) gave you the answer. That’s his opinion.”

The individual then asked “Do you think it’s appropriate to use a players’ injury just to accomplish a predetermined goal that included the SEC champions into the playoff?”

Tessitore replied, “Come on man. A predetermined goal? I don’t know what to tell you. The process is the process. I get a paycheck from ESPN. I work for my wife and two kids. That’s who I work for.”
