Nebraska begins its head coaching search immediately following the firing of Scott Frost, and the Cornhuskers will likely consider some big names for the opening.

Pete Thamel of ESPN reported that several coaches with SEC ties would be on the consideration list, including Kentucky’s Mark Stoops, Alabama offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien, Arkansas’ Sam Pittman, and former Arkansas coach and current Illinois coach Bret Bielema.

It’s unclear the direction Nebraska will go as the Cornhuskers have had 5 coaches in the last 20 years, all with a range of personalties and coaching styles.

As it happens each hiring cycle, several of these coaches will immediately deny interest in the job, while others will receive contract extensions, or other compensation changes because of the reported interest.
