Virginia Tech coaching search: Hokies have 'strong interest' in rival ACC coach, per report
With Virginia Tech looking for a new head coach after the termination of Justin Fuente, it may be zeroing in on a name that’s already within the ACC to take the job. According to FootballScoop’s Zach Barnett, Wake Forest head coach Dave Clawson is someone who has drawn “strong interest” among those at the university.
Clawson, of course, has overseen a historic season for the Demon Deacons, who are 9-1 overall and 6-0 in the ACC Atlantic Division following a 4-5 campaign in 2020. They are also ranked 10th in the College Football Playoff Top 25 as they are in search of a New Year’s 6 berth.
Virginia Tech moved on from Fuente on Tuesday after a 43-31 mark and 28-20 conference record. The Hokies are currently 5-5 (3-3 ACC) as Fuente’s teams were unable to gain traction in the conference, despite a promising first season at the helm in 2016 after taking over for the legendary Frank Beamer.
