Former Texas A&M WR Mike Evans has become one of the best offensive players in the NFL during his time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

However, the fact that he was able to get to this point is a borderline miracle. Evans had a rough childhood in Galveston, Texas, that involved a tragic incident when his uncle murdered his abusive father.

Somehow, Evans fought through a ton of adversity and has reached the top level of the game, and now he wants to help other kids achieve their dreams.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Evans will host a free football camp at his old high school in June. He said he’s learned a lot from the great people who have entered his life at various times and he wants to give back to his hometown community:

“I’ve always had great mentors,” Evans said. “I’ve had a lot of great friends and people in my life. It all helps. You’ve got to live on and stay positive and give back to others.”

Even through all the hardships he endured during his childhood, Evans said he feels lucky and wants to make sure the kids currently living in Galveston have the opportunities to succeed that he had:

“I’ve been blessed,” Evans said. “I just want to share that with people, the kids. Everybody had so much fun last year. I love kids. I know a lot of kids from the area. It’s just fun seeing everybody and interacting and playing with them, especially the younger ones. They had such a good time. They can compete. It’s fun seeing them happy.”

Evans caught 96 passes for 1,321 yards and 12 touchdowns last year and is expected to be a big part of Tampa Bay’s offense again this fall.
