Some tough news was revealed in College Station on Thursday as senior receiver Cam Buckley was lost for the season after suffering an injury during training camp this week.

“Cam did suffer a season-ending injury. He had an ACL injury, had surgery yesterday. Everything was clean in the surgery. He will miss the year,” Jimbo Fisher announced on Thursday.

Buckley had appeared in every game during the Fisher era in College Station, registering a total of 62 receptions, 877 receiving yards and four touchdowns during his playing career at Texas A&M.

Despite the disappointing news, Fisher expressed his belief that the Aggies have the necessary depth to withstand the tough loss of losing Buckley for the upcoming season.

“At receiver now, we’re doing a really nice job and our receiver group, our young guys, are really coming on,” Fisher said on Thursday. “Of course, you know Jhamon, Kam Brown has been in that group, (Caleb) Chapman is playing really well, (Demond) Demas has had a good camp. Hezekiah Jones, getting him back has been really good. Chase Lane and Moose (Muhammad) have done a good job (Jalen) Preston, Devin Price, I mean we got a good group in there now.

“I know some guys can move around. I’ve been very pleased with that group. They got to get a little more consistent on a couple things but the ability to run, playmaking ability and things, have been very good. And you know, we always want to mix in tight end sets as much as we possibly can. I believe it’s just something I like to do. I think it creates mismatches and we have guys that can block and catch, so it creates some advantages for us.”

Two players not mentioned in Fisher’s comments, sophomore Jalen Wydermyer and freshman Baylor Cupp, both play tight end for the Aggies.

Provided Cupp has rebounded from the season-ending injury he suffered this time last year, be prepared to see those two players take the field even more now that Texas A&M may need them to contribute more frequently with Buckley out for the season.
