It’s tough to come into the SEC as a head coach and quickly become successful at recruiting. There are some powerhouse programs in the conference that can be dominant out on the trail.

Jimbo Fisher is now in his fourth season as the Texas A&M head coach, and he now feels that the program is establishing itself as a desirable one to join not only to recruits in Texas, but across the nation. And Fisher broke down the importance of that during an appearance on ESPNU Radio on SiriusXM on Thursday.

“We’ve got great recruits out here in Texas, we’re recruiting the heck out of them,” Fisher said. “But listen, you’ve got to brand yourself nationally now. You’ve got to be able to go across this country and people say, ‘You know what, Texas A&M is the place I want to come to,’ if I’m in Florida, I’m in Georgia, if I’m in California, if I’m in Ohio, if I’m in Michigan or if I’m in Arizona, or I’m wherever.

“And I think that’s starting to happen. I think we’re getting a national brand, along with having a tremendous home base in recruiting and you can go get difference-makers, like we did at Florida State with Jalen Ramsey, you know, Jameis Winston, going to get EJ [Manuel] in Virginia. …

“Getting all those types of guys, there’s always guys out there that are great players that you’ve got to be able to go get and certain programs can do that, and I think we’re starting to be able to do that with, like you said, building the whole entire program. Not just about the wins and losses now, but the future of it, how it’s being perceived. This can be a destination a lot of folks want to come to and play, and I think we’re definitely getting there.”

Texas A&M has been successful in that regard under Fisher. The Aggies ranked No. 8 in the country in the 247Sports team rankings for the 2021 class, and they’re currently at No. 9 for the 2022 class.
